Update: Flops from Barea, Bogans and Asik

May 13th, 2011 No comments

It’s been relatively quiet over the past 9 days on the “flopping front,” but not too unexpected since the number of games being played in the playoffs has slowly dwindled since our last update.

In this episode of TopFlops, we feature 3 floppers: Dallas’ Jose Barea, Chicago’s Keith Bogans, & Omar Asik. The one from Asik is absolutely hilarious. Enjoy!

Catching up on some good flops over the past few days

Here are 4 flops from the Lakers-Hornets game from April 26th that we felt was worth going back and featuring. It stars Lamar Odom, Derek Fisher, Pau Gasol, and New Orleans’ Marco Bellinelli.

Zaza flops on Dwight to draw foul

April 23rd, 2011 No comments

Last night in Atlanta, Zaza Pachulia had a nice flop to draw a foul on Dwight Howard, but unfortunately for Zaza, TV analyst Jon Barry called him out on it on national TV.

Three flops from same player in one game this past Thursday. No surprise since he’s ranked in Top 15 players’ poll

We featured from Thursday’s Dallas-Portland game 3 “alleged” flops on our sister site because sometimes the refs can get tired of the act. Checkout J.J. Barea try to work his magic.

We also include a clip of a loose ball foul against Tyson Chandler at the end of this video that fouled him out of the game. We’re not sure what the ref saw because we didn’t even see a flop from Portland’s Lamarcus Aldridge to try to sell it.

Flops from Shane Battier & Chris Paul

April 22nd, 2011 No comments

Shane Battier and Chris Paul flop in their respective playoff games on April 20th, 2011. Is it something about ACC guys? (just joking Duke & Wake Forest fans).

Fortunately the refs didn’t “fall” for it (get it?).

Tweet us players’ flops you see with #topflops

In addition to the RefCalls forum where you can post information about flops you see in games, we’re going to also try Twitter as a way for you to provide the same kind of info. Just use #topflops and it will get to us.

Here’s a sample format you can use that provides us the info we need, starting with the game, the quarter, the time on the clock, and the player involved.

IND-CHI 3Q 2:12 – Boozer flops. #topflops

Feel free to use your remaining characters to provide more info, or just vent!

Remember as we mention in our “Report a call” video at that we won’t be able to feature all of the flops on our home page because there can be too many flops to post each night.

But we will take your info, research it, and log it into a database so that we can eventually run some reports on the data we collect that will give us a better glimpse of which players are the worst at flopping, and maybe provide supporting video, time permitting.

And don’t forget you can also Tweet bad calls & missed calls you see in games by using the hashtag #refcalls that we could feature on our sister site

Spurs’ Matt Bonner flops twice within one quarter of play

April 18th, 2011 2 comments

San Antonio’s Matt Bonner had some questionable acting jobs in today’s Spurs-Grizzlies game.

On the first flop in the 2nd quarter, Bonner appeared to get hit in the face as he was shooting, then put his hand over his right eye as he crumpled to the floor in what looked like major pain.

But when Bonner got up, somehow magically he was fine, not even having to TOUCH his face after such a ‘painful’ blow. I think most people would have continued to at least touch their wound getting up after such trauma to the face. He probably did get touched in the face slightly for a legitimate foul, but c’mon Bonner, you have to sell it all the way after getting up until you shoot your free throws!

On the second play featured in the video, Bonner threw himself out of bounds after getting slightly touched, if at all, but referee Dan Crawford (#23) rewarded him with two free throws.

This bad call didn’t hurt Memphis because they ultimately won thanks to a Shane Battier 3-pointer near the end of the game, but Bonner’s two free throws after this flop did make the game closer than it should have been.

Props go to analyst Kevin McHale who made fun of Bonner’s flop after the play.

The playoffs start today (Saturday) where we should be able to see a whole bunch of fresh, playoff-style flops over the next several weeks. But before we start focusing on those, let’s look back on a few flops we have collected in our archives over the past year.

This video stars Derek Fisher, Andrei Kirilenko, Pau Gasol, Wesley Matthews, Brad Miller, Lamar Odom, and Reggie Evans.
